We have a two towel per person rule in this house. You get one bath towel, one smaller towel for hair or whatever and as many washcloths as you need, to get you through life. The way I look at it is that you are clean when you get out of the shower, so the towel should be relatively clean after drying off your clean body, right?
Knowing that you get one shot at a dry towel, you learn pretty quickly to hang them up - or risk streaking the family as you run to your room.
A few weeks ago I bought Marty and I giant bath sheets - yes, bath sheets - to replace our bath towels. These things are huge and we ran in to the problem of where the heck do we hang them?
In the master bathroom, we are sorely lacking in space. Hehe. Master bathroom. That sounds all fancy, doesn't it? Really, it is just a bathroom off of my bedroom. I love having one and have a strict "No Boys Allowed" rule. Ok... strict might be a stretch, but someone had better be dying if they want to use my bathroom. It is nothing fancy. Standard apartment bathroom, I would bet. Wooden vanity cabinet, ginormous mirror glued to the wall, white fixtures and super (not so) flattering vanity strip lights. But it is mine.
Anyway, yesterday I finally figured something out that really should not have taken me as long as it did, but I digress. I had Christian hang a few hooks I found on clearance at Jo Ann's. The hooks have been hanging out in the hall closet, waiting for me to figure out why I bought them, and finally yesterday they found their calling.
They are crooked, match nothing... and I love them.

When I buy new towels I always go with bath sheets. After my first set, I was an addict.
